Magic of Paws makes changes to keep clients, pets happy, safe amid pandemic

Local pet-sitting business Magic of Paws is offering a range of services to meet pet owners’ needs during this global pandemic.

North Yarmouth, ME (July 27, 2020) — With the new coronavirus forcing many to adjust their schedules to work from home and others to limit public contact, Magic of Paws is stepping up to offer much-needed services to pet owners.

All sitters and walkers are wearing masks in people’s homes, providing their own leashes, sanitizing hands and surfaces, and wiping dog’s coats with grooming wipes for each service. Magic of Paws staff have also achieved COVID-19 safety certifications from both FetchFind and Pet Sitters International.

“While our company has seen a decline in business due to travel cancellations, we are making ourselves available to offer daily dog walking, pet transportation to veterinary and grooming appointments, pet food delivery to assist impacted pet owners, and online dog training courses,” said Magic of Paws owner Nyssa Gatcombe.

Magic of Paws offers services to residents in Cumberland County.

“We want to ensure that the pets in our community continue to receive the high-quality level of care that they deserve and are able to maintain their typical daily routines during this hectic time — and that pet owners are able to continue focusing on their work, whether they are still heading into the office or working from home,” Gatcombe added.

Although many pet owners may typically only think of using pet-sitting services when they vacation or travel for work, services such as dog walking and dog training have always been a part of Magic of Paws’ regular offerings. To meet pet owners’ needs, Magic of Paws also is now offering new online dog training options, pet transportation, litter box services and pet food delivery.

Gatcombe is a member of Pet Sitters International (PSI), the world’s leading educational association for professional pet sitters and dog walkers as well as the Pet Professional Guild (PPG), Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT), and the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC).

“During this time of global uncertainty, professional pet sitters and dog walkers continue offering vital services in their local communities, providing pet owners with peace of mind that their pets are receiving the best care,” said PSI President Beth Stultz-Hairston. “We encourage pet owners to continue supporting and using the services of their local professional pet sitters and dog walkers. People’s livelihoods—and pet owners’ continued access to reliable pet care—are depending on it.”

With the growth of the professional pet-sitting industry, pet owners don’t have to rely on untrained or unwilling friends, family members or neighbors — or “pet sitters” who have listed their services online but lack the experience, education and insurance needed should a pet emergency or other situation occur.

“For pet owners’ peace of mind, my business is insured and provides client references,” said Gatcombe. “I am also trained in pet first aid and happy to show proof of a recent background check.”
