Bringing a new dog into your home is an exciting time filled with joy and anticipation. However, the first few days can also overwhelm you and your furry friend. The initial 72 hours are crucial for establishing a positive foundation for your relationship and setting your dog up for success in their new environment. Let's explore why these first days matter, what you can do to prepare, how to navigate those early challenges, and what to expect in the long run.
Why the First 72 Hours Matter
The first three days in a new home are a critical adjustment period for your dog. During this time, your dog is processing a multitude of new sights, sounds, smells, and routines, forming its first impressions of you, its new family, and its new surroundings.

We can hardly believe it, Magic of Paws is 5 today!
Thank you for being with us on this crazy ride. We've had some great times. We've learned a lot and we've met some fantastic pets (and their people). Most importantly, we are looking forward to the next five years.
To celebrate, we'll be having a party on July 9th. Come by to meet the staff, other clients, and maybe even some adoptable pets. We'll have the stuff for s'mores and a few other things but you're welcome to help make this a potluck. More information is available here.
We have been reflecting a lot over the past five years. Most things have worked well for us, but something s could be better, so we are making some minor policy changes to keep the next year running smoothly.
As we are sure you've noticed, the price of everything is on the rise. In order to avoid raising our prices, we are optimizing our in-home services.
Nothing major is changing but hopefully, these small changes will make a HUGE difference for us.
Check out the video for more information.
Planning on going away any time soon? Let's talk about one of our most popular pet sitting services, overnight house sitting. Most importantly we want to talk about the changes we made recently.
Previously, we had two different levels of house sitting. The main difference between them was how they're scheduled on our end and what it looks like for our team. In level one, our sitters were booked for other services. That meant that in addition to the overnight they were also scheduled in the resort or would provide in-home services just like they normally would. Level two, the sitter was not scheduled for anything else. However, in both versions, the sitter would fit in walks and potty breaks where they could in their schedule. Both levels had the same basic services: overnight care, feedings, medications, getting the mail, watering plants, neighborhood walks, and litter box scooping.
That was how we ran our house-sitting service for a year and a half. What we discovered was that we...
When you go out of town there are multiple options out there to help take care of your pets. You can board them but that isn't right for every pet as it can be stressful for more sensitive animals. There is always a family friend or neighbor but what if something goes wrong? You can use a pet sitter on-demand service but the fees can be outrageous.
Obviously, we're biased but there are a whole host of reasons to go with a professional pet sitter like Magic of Paws to give you peace of mind.
The State of Maine has known we existed since we became a real company. We file annual reports with the state and get regular safety inspections at our resort. This means you will always be able to find us if you need us.
While we have yet to have anything major go wrong, it is always a possibility. We are insured through Business Insurers of the Carolinas for anything that could happen while we are caring for your pet from frozen pipes to...

North Yarmouth, ME (July 27, 2020) — With the new coronavirus forcing many to adjust their schedules to work from home and others to limit public contact, Magic of Paws is stepping up to offer much-needed services to pet owners.
All sitters and walkers are wearing masks in people’s homes, providing their own leashes, sanitizing hands and surfaces, and wiping dog’s coats with grooming wipes for each service. Magic of Paws staff have also achieved COVID-19 safety certifications from both FetchFind and Pet Sitters International.

July is National Lost Pet Prevention Month™! While we all like to hope that our pets will never go missing, the sad fact is that a pet goes missing in the United States every 2 seconds. That is 10 million pets a year or 1 in 3 pets in their lifetimes. Sometimes those pets come home within an hour other times they are never reunited.
That's why PetHub started NLPPM in 2014. They picked July because it is the start of a two-month increase in pets reported missing. A survey in 2015 found that Animal Control Services see a 30% increase in lost pets July 4-6, and only 14% of lost pets make their way back to their owners.
So what can you do to prevent your pet from going missing?
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, that goes for pets too. One of the best things you can do is to cut down on the opportunities for your animals to get loose or escape.
One of the things that we have seen is animals pushing out screens to get out of windows or getting out of holes...
